About this painting
This portrait by Rembrandt, dated to the early 1660s and painted in oil on canvas, shows a woman holding a pink, or carnation, a flower traditionally used as a symbol of love and marriage. It is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York as part of the Benjamin Altman bequest of 1913. Its provenance traces through the d'Oultremont family of Brussels and the Rodolphe Kann collection before entering the Altman collection.
