About this painting
Le Spectre de Vermeer de Delft (full title: The Ghost of Vermeer of Delft Which Can Be Used as a Table, subtitled Phenomenologic Theory of Furniture-Nutrition) is an oil painting by Salvador Dalí completed around 1934. It reimagines Johannes Vermeer's The Art of Painting, depicting Vermeer as a dark, spindly kneeling figure whose extended leg forms a table surface, set against landscape views near Dalí's home in Port Lligat. The work, unsigned and undated by Dalí, is on public display at the Salvador Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Florida, on loan from the E. and A. Reynolds Morse collection.
