About this painting
"Negro Soldier" is a title used by fine-art print sellers for a Thomas Hart Benton work dated to around 1942, apparently from the period when the artist was producing wartime imagery in response to the outbreak of World War II, including his eight-painting "Year of Peril" series decrying fascism. No museum or scholarly catalogue record independently documenting a painting or drawing under this specific title could be located, so it may represent a study, a detail drawn from a larger composition, or a print derived from Benton's wartime work.
