The closest documented match for this subject is Van Gogh's 'Peasant Woman by the Fireplace' (De la Faille catalogue no. F158), an oil painting on canvas depicting a peasant woman seated at a hearth, now in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. Sources disagree on the exact date: the De la Faille catalogue raisonné assigns it to Van Gogh's Nuenen period (circa March 1885), while the Musée d'Orsay's own object record lists 1890, so a precise date cannot be confirmed here. Its provenance traces through the collections of H. P. Bremmer and C. Mouwen before it was given to the French state by the heirs of collector Georges Renand in 1988.
