Every painting on our site comes in a few standard sizes, shown as buttons above the Add to Cart button on each product page. Here's a quick way to picture how each one fits your wall.
- Small / desk & shelf scale (around 12x24 to 16x24 inch): Great above a desk, nightstand, or as part of a gallery wall grouping with other pieces.

As a rule of thumb, wall art should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs above (for example, over a 6 ft sofa, look for a piece 4-5 ft wide, or a grouped arrangement that adds up to that width).

About this painting
Catalogued by the Art Institute of Chicago as Madame Roulin Rocking the Cradle (La Berceuse), this painting depicts Augustine Roulin, wife of van Gogh's friend the postman Joseph Roulin, rocking an infant's cradle. Van Gogh completed this version in January 1889 in Arles, shortly after his hospitalization following Paul Gauguin's departure, seating Madame Roulin in the chair Gauguin had used. It is an oil on canvas held in the Art Institute of Chicago's Helen Birch Bartlett Memorial Collection. Van Gogh described his intended palette for the series as a 'lullaby in colors,' and gave a version of the painting to Gauguin in May 1889 as a gesture of reconciliation, asking that it be hung between two of his sunflower paintings.
