About this painting
Panel for Edwin R. Campbell No. 4 is an oil-on-canvas painting from 1914, the fourth in a four-canvas series Kandinsky was commissioned to paint for the entrance foyer of Edwin R. Campbell's Park Avenue apartment. Scholars have theorized the four panels may evoke the four seasons rather than depict specific scenes. The panel passed from the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (1941) to the Museum of Modern Art, which acquired it in 1983.
