As a rule of thumb, wall art should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs above (for example, over a 6 ft sofa, look for a piece 4-5 ft wide, or a grouped arrangement that adds up to that width).

About this painting
Painted in the summer of 1889 while van Gogh was a patient at the Saint-Rémy asylum, this plein-air landscape captures a wheat field and towering cypress trees in the Alpilles hills near Eygalières. Van Gogh considered it among his finest summer landscapes and later painted two studio replicas of the composition. He described the cypresses as 'a splash of black in a sunny landscape' and the turbulent sky as resembling 'a piece of Scotch plaid.'
