About this painting
This painting, catalogued by the Kröller-Müller Museum as Wheat Field with Reaper and Sun (Korenveld met maaier en zon), shows a reaper cutting wheat beneath a radiant sun. Vincent van Gogh painted it between late June and early September 1889 while a patient at the asylum in Saint-Remy-de-Provence. It is an oil on canvas, 73 x 92 cm, held in the collection of the Kroller-Muller Museum in Otterlo, the Netherlands. The museum describes the wheat as built up in thick dollops of yellow paint flooded with golden light, with the reaper formed from a few touches of blue worked into the wet paint.
