- Small / desk & shelf scale (around 12x24 to 16x24 inch): Great above a desk, nightstand, or as part of a gallery wall grouping with other pieces.

As a rule of thumb, wall art should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs above (for example, over a 6 ft sofa, look for a piece 4-5 ft wide, or a grouped arrangement that adds up to that width).

About this painting
Music in the Tuileries Gardens (1862) portrays a crowded outdoor concert in the fashionable Parisian park, filled with top-hatted men and elegantly dressed women drawn from Manet's own circle of friends, writers and fellow artists, with Manet himself included at the far left edge. Painted with rapid, sketch-like brushwork and little finished detail in the crowd, it was considered radically unresolved by contemporary standards and is now regarded as one of the first paintings of modern Parisian leisure life, anticipating Impressionism's fascination with contemporary urban subjects. It caused controversy when exhibited in 1863 for its seemingly haphazard, unfinished composition. The painting has been in the National Gallery, London, since 1917.
