As a rule of thumb, wall art should span roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs above (for example, over a 6 ft sofa, look for a piece 4-5 ft wide, or a grouped arrangement that adds up to that width).

About this painting
Death in the Sickroom (1893) depicts the household of Munch's childhood gathered in silent grief around the death of his sister Sophie from tuberculosis, with family figures arranged around the edges of the room rather than clustered at the bedside, emphasizing isolation within shared loss. The muted, restrained palette and the psychologically distant arrangement of the figures set it apart from more traditional deathbed imagery. The painting is held by the MUNCH museum in Oslo.
